Traditional Chinese Medicine for Optimal Health

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) uses a variety of healing modalities to promote optimal health. Optimal health is more than the absence of pain and disease. It includes life’s physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual aspects. To obtain optimal health, TCM uses Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Tui Na (Chinese healing massage), nutrition and lifestyle counseling, and medical Qigong (Chinese yoga).

Katherine Sohigian, LAc

Katherine Sohigian found Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) while studying Taoist arts at the Taoist Institute in North Hollywood CA. There she learned Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Qigong. She also studied Taoism through reading and lectures. Special programs introduced Katherine to the Taoist healing arts. Through the institute, Katherine visited Chinese masters in San Francisco and received energetic healing treatments. Over the years, she explored many healing methods, but none were as effective for her personally as Traditional Chinese Medicine. She left a career as a CPA/MBA to bring the healing and restoration power of TCM to Westerners…

Tools of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses very fine disposable steel needles to manipulate energy in the body to promote health. The body’s energy or qi (“chee“) flows in channels or meridians. We use needles and massage at hundreds of points on the body to access the qi and encourage optimal energy flow. Treatment can be directed at internal organs, joints, and brain function.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine is different than western drugs because it is natural, gentle and administered in formulas. The herbalist can adjust the formulas to create a balanced treatment that provides the benefit without harsh side effects. Chinese tonic herbs are prescribed to promote optimal health.

Medical Qigong (Chinese Yoga)

Medical Qigong (Chinese Yoga) uses specific exercises to balance the body, treat disease and promote health. Medical Qigong uses breath and movement to regulate qi in the body. These exercises are tailored to each patient and can be performed in a few minutes each day.

Nutrition and Lifestyle Counseling

Nutrition and lifestyle counseling may be the most beneficial and long lasting of all TCM healing modalities. Taoist philosophy promotes health and prosperity through healthy eating, gentle exercise and living in balance with nature.

Tui Na

Tui Na (Chinese healing massage) rounds out an acupuncture treatment. Tui Na is used to loosen tight knotted muscles and promote relaxation in limbs and joints.
